Career Research: Finding Library Resources

Using the library resources to find Career information.

Catalog Search

Print Books, DVDs and more

Use the Library Catalog to locate books in the library on your topic:

  • Perform an All Fields search (the default setting) using keywords such as accounting career. These searches will search the entire records of all the items in the catalog, including author, title, and subject areas.
  • Perform a Subject search using a keyword phrase such as “vocational guidance” or “job hunting” to find general career information or try searching for a specific industry, such as nursing.
  • Perform a Series search for VGM opportunities or Career launcher to see multiple career options published in that series.
  • If you’d prefer to browse the shelves, most career books are located at call number 331.7.

E-Books

E-Books are available through the OCC Library Databases. To access them, log into Ocean Connect and click on the tab for Library Services. The link EBSCO e-books will open the EBSCOhost eBooks database, which contains numerous career-related books. Perform a search for terms like “vocational guidance” or nursing AND career.

Find Articles

The Library subscribes to several article databases, each suited to different fields and levels of study. If you are away from campus, you will need to access these databases by using your Ocean Connect user name and password. If you are unsure how to do this, please ask a member of the Library’s staff for assistance.
Here are a few databases that may prove useful to your research on careers and vocations:
