Library Services for the Southern Education Center (SEC): Find Books & Articles

OCC Catalog

Use the OCC Catalog to find books and articles in the library:

Search Tips

Use search operators to expand or narrow your search results:

AND

The Boolean operator AND tells a search engine that you want to find information about two (or more) search terms.

OR

The Boolean operator OR tells the search engine that you want to find information about either search term you've entered. This will broaden your search results because the search engine will bring back any results that have either search term in them.

NOT

The Boolean operator NOT tells the search engine that you want to find information about the first search term, but nothing about the second term.

Phrase Searching:

Put quotation marks " " around a search term to let the search engine know you are looking for results on this exact phrase. This is helpful when you are searching for phrases that contain two or more common words like "skin cancer". If you were to search for skin cancer without the quotation marks, you will get results that will contain the phrase skin cancer, OR skin, OR cancer and will need to search through many more results to find materials that are relevant to your research

Transit times:          Physical Materials: 1-2 Weeks           Digital Materials: Less than 1 week

*Most of the time we can obtain requested items – books and articles have the highest success rate – but in some instances (a rare book for example) it may not be possible. Most institutions do not lend reference books, textbooks, microfilm, or archival materials. Some libraries will lend media such as CDs and DVDs.
